About Us

Sonora rests at the foot of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountain range in the heart of California’s “Gold Country.” Historically, she was known as “Queen of the Southern Mines.” With a population of 4,500, Sonora serves as the Tuolumne County seat. Visitors enjoy her hospitality and historic charm. At 1800 ft. above sea level, we sit above valley heat & fog, and below most winter snowfall. It’s a great climate for retirement living.

Sonora has two shopping centers, with Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart & Lowe’s, and local boutique shopping. 50 miles west in Modesto are larger shopping centers. Residents at the SC Estates can easily walk to nearby banks and grocery stores if they choose. We’re 1 hour from Yosemite Valley, and minutes from Lakes Don Pedro and New Melones.


Our History

Sonora Community Estates began as part of a campus that was originally the Sonora Community Hospital. The hospital had been a collaborative effort by several area physicians. In the last 50 years, the acreage has divided, and grown by the addition of neighboring properties, and reconfigured several times to reach it’s current usage.

Currently of the original parcel, there consists to the south, a public city park, and an 8 acre parcel consisting of the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Mother Lode Adventist junior Academy, and with our own 40 homes, apartments, and duplex units wrapped loosely around the adjoining church and school campus We’re bordered on the east by historic gold-panning creek, “Woods creek,” and to the north and west, partially complete, and soon-to-be 107-acre Dragoon Gulch trail system.
